 PLOT SUMMARY:

Sherlock Holmes is dead. Or so it is assumed. The world knows the great detective went over the falls at Reichenbach with his nemesis Professor Moriarty. But as Holmes’ body was never retrieved, a number of frauds, fakes, and charlatans have come forward since to lay claim to his identity, and it falls to Dr. Watson to disprove them. Then a telegram arrives informing Watson that three men, each claiming to be Holmes, have been committed to a remote asylum off the coast of Scotland. Now Watson must discover if one of the mad men is the real Sherlock Holmes. 

DR. JOHN WATSON
Male, 40s–60s
A former military physician and Holmes’ close friend. Intelligent, compassionate, and practical, Watson guides the audience through the mystery. Grounded yet emotionally invested, he requires warmth, authority, and strong reactive skills. Leading role with significant stage time.

PATIENT ONE

Male, 30s–60s
One of three men claiming to be Holmes. Confident, articulate, and convincing, with sharp intellect and emotional intensity. Requires balance of certainty and unpredictability.

PATIENT TWO

Male, 30s–60s
Another claimant. Restless, suspicious, quick-thinking, and volatile. A physically expressive role demanding versatility and rapid shifts between vulnerability and confidence.

PATIENT THREE

Male, 30s–60s
The most enigmatic claimant. Quiet, mysterious, and seemingly detached. Requires strong physical storytelling and subtle expression despite limited early dialogue.

DR. EVANS

Male, 40s–60s
The asylum superintendent. Intelligent and professional, with possible hidden depths. An authority figure who helps drive the investigation.

MATRON

Female, 40s–70s
The head nurse. Efficient, disciplined, and no-nonsense, with strong presence despite a smaller role.

ORDERLY

Male, 20s–50s
An attendant at the asylum. Physically capable, observant, and disciplined. Assists with patients and security while helping establish the tension and unease within the institution.
