Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899, Newsies follows Jack Kelly, a fearless newsboy, who rallies his fellow “newsies” to strike against unfair treatment by powerful publishers. Featuring a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, this high-energy musical delivers thrilling dance, unforgettable songs, and an inspiring story of courage and justice for all ages. 

Standing Ovation Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for Disney’s Newsies, the high-energy Broadway musical packed with heart, humor, powerhouse music, and nonstop momentum. We’re looking for performers ready to sing, act, dance, and help bring this exciting summer production to life. 

Audition Dates
Dance auditions will be held May 16 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in hour-long slots. 

Acting and singing audition appointments are available May 16 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and May 22 through May 23. Callbacks will take place May 24, with selected appointments during the week as needed. 

What to Prepare
For acting and singing auditions, please prepare a 1-minute monologue and a short section of a musical theatre song. Auditioners should bring their own accompaniment track, since no pianist will be available. Both selections should be memorized and well rehearsed. The director may also ask auditioners to adjust their performance after the first read or song. 

Dance Auditions
Dance auditions are required, along with singing and acting auditions. No advance preparation is needed for dance, just come dressed to move. The form notes that all roles, except certain older adult roles such as Pulitzer, Nunzio, Wiesel, and Medda, should sign up for a dance slot. Dance auditions are scheduled separately and may overlap with acting and singing appointments, so auditioners are asked not to choose overlapping time slots. 

Can’t Make the Listed Dates?
If you are unavailable during the scheduled audition times, the form includes an option to request an alternate audition by Zoom or at the theatre. 

Rehearsal Information
Rehearsals begin Friday, May 29 and continue through opening on July 17. The regular rehearsal schedule is Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, plus Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There will also be select Sunday rehearsals for principal roles or Newsies. Cast members are asked to list known conflicts on the audition form so the rehearsal schedule can be built as accurately as possible.
